THE HISTORY OF THE EIFFEL TOWER

The Eiffel Tower. Largely a symbol of everything French and of Paris itself. It stands for the A in my logo as a representation of Paris in the word American. Americans in Paris have been a long-standing truth. But how to get assistance in English for everyday things like needing a psychologist to air out your troubles in your native language while living in a foreign city- or having a need for an English-speaking lawyer as an American in Paris? Or living abroad as a Frenchman in Los Angeles and needing a real estate agent or mortgage lender who speaks French when buying a house in Los Angeles. All of these are real needs for the average American or French citizen living abroad.

My logo represents the colors of the American and French flag. Blue white and red. Red white and blue. The Eiffel Tower represents France.

While living in Paris, our apartment was 5 minutes from the Eiffel Tower and the Champs de Mars in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. I took pictures of my husband and son 8 months old in front of the Eiffel Tower and when my son was two years old, he rode a pony in front of the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is largely a symbol of love and romance as Paris is the city of love. Millions of tourists flock to the top of the Eiffel Tower every day to see the scenic view of all of Paris. Some propose there, some have weddings there.

Gustave Eiffel could have hardly realized the significance of his building when he built the Eiffel Tower at the 1889 World Fair. The Eiffel Tower represents the past for when it was built, it referenced the 100 years since the French Revolution. And each year we look towards the future celebrating the New Year with lights along the Eiffel Tower in the colors of the flag.

ABOUT US

Erika Rycina, President & CEO

As a young girl I was sent to Paris, France from Connecticut for the summers. My parents had good friends in Paris that I stayed with. I fell in love with Paris and spoke French and English.

Then when I was 17, I enrolled in Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. I graduated as a French Literature Major and spent the summer after graduation in Paris, France. I wanted to stay in France, but my father got me a job at a law firm on Wall Street in NYC. I lived in New York for 6 years before moving to Paris at age 28.
While in NYC at age 26 I got signed to a major record label. I wrote 3 albums of music with original songs in French and in English, which you can hear on Spotify under the name ERIKA HORSEY. When I moved to Paris at age 28, I stayed with a good friend of mine. Then got myself a job working as an au pair then as an English teacher, then in product placement -advertising for feature films. While working in film one of my childhood friends from my summers as a child in Paris invited me for dinner. There I met my husband who is French. That was in 2001. We got married 6 months later and have been married for 22 years.

We lived in Paris until 2012 and in Los Angeles from 2013 to present. During my time living in Paris there were times I wanted an English speaking professional. While living in Los Angeles my husband wanted a French speaking professional for example: when we bought our house, our mortgage lender spoke French; when he became American, our lawyer was from France. Thus came the idea to make a company the French American Directory.

Erika lives in Los Angeles with her teenage son and husband.
